WHAT THAT DELUSION !!!!

I didn't like so much the new OVA!

The design is not bad, it's the storyline that has little substance: it seems that the writers might have felt compelled (if not in awe) to create a story ridiculous at all costs.

Well, have fun with the "evidence absurd" of the swimming obstacle race and there are no "innovations" except
Spoiler (hover to show)

The finish is a real disappointment: why they haven't finished the OVA when
Spoiler (hover to show)

Lamù and Ataru deserved much more than this OVA !!

Springs to mind 2 questions:

- Really R.T. oversaw this realization?

- I hope this is not true: IT IS NOT 'THAT R.T. HATES UY?!?

Probably regrets not being able to give UY the overseas fanbase her later work has.

Mmmmmmh  eerie

I think it's actually something 'worse': RT produced a huge amount of manga (shots of so many stories here in the West there is no trace) and, likely, this depends on its obsession not to remain 'trapped' in one saga.

Some people will never explain her that a big as Monkey Punch still manages to emotions us after 30 years of stories of Lupin III?

I was thinking more of a sequel. UY stretched out that long might wear thin. Then again, a sitcom can stay funny with little to no plot twists.

Exactly.
Ranma 1/2 was her first manga/anime recognized worldwide, UY may have a couple fans, but even some hardcore anime fans have never heard about it (Maison Ikkoku too, but I think that one was even less popular then UY outsideof Japan, as evidence you can see there's no new OVA for it).

About the OVA though, Rumiko had already said that UY was a closed chapter in her life. Having to work on a new piece of it must not have been what she wanted, which could explain why some might think he OVA wasn' as good.
Let's just hope the people who get the box set for one of the other OVAs decide to watch this and start becoming interested in UY. Tongue

Ah ha! Very funny. -.-'

Anyways, whoever hates UY is freaking stupid! >.<

But yeah, if RT is done with UY, it her choice. At least she made it, right?

Imagine that 12 years after you completed school the government decided that school needed a 13th grade and you had to go do it.
Not the best analogy I know, but I think you know what I mean.

I wouldn't mind doing it because I love my school and my classmates and my non-classmates friends.

RT-UY reminds me of a band called Warrant. Warrant made a kick-ass song "Cherry Pie" (it's so awesome) and as soon as it came out, everybody was talking about and listening to this song. The lead singer got angry that his band was just known for "Cherry Pie" and not for the other songs. It was like "Warrant who? Oh yeah Cherry Pie kicks-ass!". Even interviewers were constantly asking about the song and when the lead singer just talked about how the band felt about what was going on, people just misunderstood what he said and basically assumed that the lead singer hated the song, which hurt Warrant's music business.

Here's a chart from RT (data from myanimelist):

InuYasha: (44th place on popularity) (Rating: 7.55 out of 10)

Ranma 1/2: (191th place on popularity) (Rating: 7.90 out of 10)

Maison Ikkoku: (1153th place on popularity) (Rating: 8.26 out of 10)

Urusei Yatsura: (1286th place on popularity) (Rating: 7.93 out of 10)

Summary:

With the data above that I researched, we can conclude that InuYasha is without doubt the most popular work from RT. However, it's also the worst if we look at its rating (7.55). We can see that there's a discrepancy between popularity and rating, which means that even though it's popular, it's bad compared to the less popular works of RT.

This discrepancy doesn't only happen with InuYasha. The best Anime from RT, based on ratings, is Maison Ikkoku with 8.26 and it's the second less popular.

Ranma 1/2 is also very popular (191th place on popularity) and it's rated 7.90. Urusei Yatsura is the less popular of all and from its rating it's better than Ranma, with 7.93.

So, based on popularity:

1. InuYasha
2. Ranma 1/2
3. Maison Ikkoku
4. Urusei Yatsura

And based on rating:

1. Maison Ikkoku
2. Urusei Yatsura
3. Ranma
4. Inuyasha

I'll try to make a chart:

                          Popularity                    Rating

InuYasha                  1st                          4th

Maison Ikkoku            3rd                          1st

Ranma 1/2                2nd                          3rd

Urusei Yatsura           4th                          2nd

Theres  a  bit  of  a flaw  in  your  thinking.

1st  maison  ikkoku  is  the  only  series  that  has  a  assual  ending.
RT  has  the  tendensy  to  give  her  works  kind  of  a  open  ending  but   you  dont  see this  in  Maison  ikkoku.  Maison  ikkoku  has  a  good  solid  ending  that  gives  the  reader  a  more  enjoyble  reading  experiense.

2nd  Urusei  yatsura  was  her  first  big  work  so  RT  use  most  of  her  good  ideas  on  it.
if  you  read  ranma  you  will  see that  she  reuses  some  of  the  UY  consepts  ,and  character   desigh.

3rd  i  bet  she  is  sick  of  the  UY  series  because  she  lives  in  japan.
UY  was  extremely  popular  over  there,  and  it  was  her  first  work.  so  she  probably  have  people  comparing her  other  works  to  UY ,  i bet  thats  pretty  anoing.

kind  of  like  an  ator  who  plays  the  bad guy  in  a  movie  so  well  that  after  the  movie  is  done  he  can  only  get  the  part  of the  bad guy  on  his  other  jobs.

I don't really see how these:

1st  maison  ikkoku  is  the  only  series  that  has  a  assual  ending.
RT  has  the  tendensy  to  give  her  works  kind  of  a  open  ending  but   you  dont  see this  in  Maison  ikkoku.  Maison  ikkoku  has  a  good  solid  ending  that  gives  the  reader  a  more  enjoyble  reading  experiense.

Relate to the chart I made. The chart I made was to clarify the popularity issue that Kroptik mentioned, not to explain RT-UY relationship.

IN  my  own  weird  way  i  am  trying  to  say.  That  comparing  this  series  is  like  comparing  apples  to  oranges.  Each  story  has  its  own  good  points  and  bad  points.

They are  different  genres.
They  were  published  in  different  times.
And  they  were  ment  to  different  demographics.

for  example  Maison  ikkoku was  ment  for  youg  girls,  and  Ranma  like  inuyasha  was  ment  for  guys  in their  teens.

PS. As  for  UY  i  am  not  exactly  sure  but  i  love  it.

The new OVA wasn't made by RT. It was made for her.
Secondly, as RT said, she never gets back to her old work, so it won't help us to hope for a new series or manga... Sad Of course I don't say it with happiness, but this is the realism.
I'm sure she loves her old work, but she don't have an encouragement to continue her work. She just want start something new.(And she did).
